The two most common layouts for kitchens are “L” and “U” shaped kitchens. The layout of your present kitchen can often be used or improved upon in your new design. Wall cabinets are 12″ deep and 30″ high, except for those placed over stoves or refrigerators which are either 15″ or 18″ high. Base cabinets are 24″ deep and 34.5″ high. List all appliance dimensions. Your sink and dishwasher should also be included. Double bowl sinks usually require 36″ sink base. Begin layout with base cabinet. List cabinets desired, for example, wall corner, pantry, sink base, etc. Tops of pantries and wall cabinets are 84″ from the floor.
